17/02/2010
-
Please be informed that from the 22nd of February 2010, following the introduction of the new European regulations, the Embassy of Italy will issue the new biometric passport for Italian citizens.
The new passport, similar to the one currently in use, will contain the owner's biometric intormation in a safe mode, with a microchip that, together with the personal details and the photograph, will contain the owner's fingerprints.
For this purpose, the applicant will have to come by person to this Consular Office for the collection of the fingerprints.
Upon presentation of the passport's application the Consular Office will also provide the applicant with a note regarding the privacy and safety of the information.
In case it would not be possible acquiring the fingerprints, a temporary passport - valid maximum 12 months - will be issued.
Minors under the age of 12 will be exempted from fingerprints collection.
Please be also informed that passport issued before the 22nd of February 2010 will remain valid until their expiration date.
