Born in Rome on September 1947, completed a degree in Law at the University of Milan 1971 and a Diploma in High European Studies at the College of Europe in Brugge; married with one child. Joined the Foreign Service in 1974 and began his professional career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Directorate General for Human Resources, moving on to the Office of the UnderSecretary of State.

His first posting was in 1978 at the Italian Permanent Mission to the International Organisations in Geneva, where he dealt with Human Rights and Disarmament. He was posted to Kampala in 1981 as Deputy Head of Mission, and to Teheran in 1983, in charge of the embassy’s economic/trade division.

Returning to Rome in late 1996 at the United Nations Office in the Directorate General for Political Affairs, he was later in charge of the Office of the Director General for Cultural Affairs.

In 1991, he was appointed Consul General of Hong Kong and in the summer of 1996 was appointed Consul General of Los Angeles.

Returned to Rome in November 2000 as Head of the IT Centre and in early 2001 was seconded to the Office of the Prime Minister, where he was in charge of the International Affairs Service at the State Protocol Department.

Appointed Minister Plenipotentiary in January 2003, and became Ambassador of Singapore in 2005 (accredited also to the Sultanate of Brunei).

In January 2010 he was appointed Ambassador Plenipotentiary of Italy to Malaysia.
